  1. After growing up in Brisbane, I ran away to Sydney, via London, and worked in book and magazine publishing After many years living in the inner west, I was surprised one morning to wake up and find myself married with three children and living on the North Shore.I m not one of those people who ve always wanted to write a novelokay, I am one of those people But it wasn t until a few years ago I seriously challenged myself to do something about it In fact, it was during an alcohol fuelled New Year s Eve party where friends had been discussing the merits of a newly published novel I could write that, I blurted to anyone who d listen I ve long forgotten the title of the book from that night, but the idea of writing my own novel, quickly became my New Year s resolution The next morning my husband poked me in the ribs, force fed me two Nurofen and pointed me in the direction of the computer I also have a vague recollection of him quietly sniggering I thought it would be easy Why not I had some ideas, so set myself up with several how to books, a corner of an overcrowded spare room I could call my own and was filled with great enthusiasm confident that at the following New Year s Eve do, I d be one of the very few who d managed to keep their resolution I d have written my first novel and would be well on my way to publication. In my dreams That was seven long years ago.Along the way, This Wife s Life was short listed for the Varuna HarperCollins Manuscript Awards in 2005, and then in 2006, Lucy Springer s Story was short listed With a hell of a lot writing, rewriting, editing, and several buckets of tears, Lucy Springer s Story morphed into what is now Lucy Springer Gets Even.

  2. Friday Jones is stunned when her husband of twenty years announces he needs a break and moves out of the family home Though Friday readily admits their marriage has been strained for a while, exacerbated by the recent deaths of Liam s parents and the family dog, Friday never imagined Liam would simply walk away Heartbroken, Friday struggles through each day while caring for their teenage daughters and continuing to work part time as a naturopath Liam has been gone for four months when Friday s b [...]

  3. That s number 2 down for AWW2015 Review to come.It Started With A Kiss is the fifth book by Lisa Heidke, and I must say I have been waiting for something new from her for a while I have really enjoyed what I have read of her, which is all but her first and I would really like to chase that up at some point.I think what I love about Lisa Heidke s work is that her heroines are generally everyday average women, mid to late thirties and facing the same dilemmas that any one of us could face.Friday J [...]

  4. Full Review at booksandababy p 75Australian Women s writing is really going off at the moment Some of the best books I read in 2014 were local publications penned by known and not so known female Australian writers which is fantastic for the state of the local industry.I have read a few of Lisa Heidke s efforts and particularly enjoyed her earlier works, such as What Kate Did Next This one is due for release in early 2015, and reflects her continuation of form as one of Australia s most engaging [...]

  5. Well written and engaging, it was real, nothing was unbelievable It was hard to like the main character, she was so detached from her kids throughout and acting like a teenager without children Really felt for the teenagers The father was nice and I really related to him The only reason I couldn t award five stars is.The book needed heads up as to whose perspective I was reading from because it wasn t a simple his chapter her chapter and the ending I felt was cut short Otherwise, highly recomme [...]

  6. Enjoy Lisa s Sydney based fiction, but not a fan of infidelity fiction, especially when it is handled with such little comment on the massive impact this can have on many in the various relationships. The family relationship of parents children is handled well the female friendships are realistic.Naturopath so messed up so unprofessional wasn t a great advertisement for the profession.

  7. I received It started with a kiss from the First Reads Giveaways This is the first book I have read by Lisa Heidke I really enjoyed this story and I m looking forward to reading her other books.

  8. I enjoyed my first foray into this genre Ms Heidke writes about lives in the northern beaches area of Sydney, contemporary, complicated, at times amusing and at times sad.

  9. So annoyed by the time I finished this, I gave it 2 stars started off ok, but could have been heaps shorter story seemed to just go round and round thankfully it s over now and I can move on to better books

  10. Lisa Heidke does it again Making ordinary characters, extraordinary yet still totally relateable A fantastic summer read that didn t last long enough Loved it.
